The Department is marked by a wide range of activities organized by the Griffin Club, a new Academic club, which nurtures the multiple talents of the students, and highlights the strenuous efforts taken by the staff members to shape the overall personality of the students.
History
The history of the Department of English begins along with the inception of the college, since the study of the English language was mandatory for students of all degree programmes. The Department started the undergraduate degree programme in English Language and Literature in 2010. The PG programme was started in the year 2013. The Department is marked by a wide range of activities organized by the Griffin Club, new Academic club, which nurture the multiple talents of the students, and highlight the strenuous efforts taken by the staff members to shape the overall personality of the students. Besides these activities, Bridge Courses, Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, Special Lectures, Remedial Programme, Certificate Courses in Spoken English and Developing Listening Skills, Value Added courses.
Vision
The PG Department of English aspires to offer holistic education by teaching and training the students in using English effectively, to make the students ready for employment, and to lead a total formation within the humane community in support with the vision of Sivagangai diocesan priests on higher education.
Mission
- To empower students on language skills and soft skills.

- To allow the students avail hands-on experience in the realm of teaching in classrooms.
- To acquaint with the recent trends and theories of English Language and Literature.

- The department of English conducts bridge courses every year successfully
- The department is keen to provide all the students study material for general English papers
- It trains other department students to conduct master of ceremony in English
- Certificate Courses in Spoken English and Value Added courses are provided for the other department students, so that they become ready for employability.
Faculty Achievements
- Faculty of English participate in Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) to enhance their academic and professional skills and NAAN MUDHALVAN programme.
- Faculty of English serve as resource persons, chief guests for various workshops and academic programmes in other colleges and schools.
Student Achievements
- Students have won prizes in intercollegiate cultural competitions held at Syed Ammal college of Arts and Science.
- Students have attended, presented papers at in national level conference and workshops held at Morning Star college of Arts and Science.
- Students have done mini and major projects.
- Students have completed internship programmes in nearby schools.
Activities
- GRIFFIN CLUB: The club activity is conducted weekly namely every Monday the students gather for the club activity. Students are divided into groups at the beginning of academic year; the secretary and coordinator of the club give them activities a week ahead. Towards the end of the academic year, the winners get their rewards.
- NEW ACADEMIC CLUB: This club is held once in a month, (the first Thursday), books of well known writers are given to them, as they come back, and they are encouraged to summarize or review the book they have chosen.
- ASSOCIATION: They are twice a semester, professors, teachers, and entrepreneurs come to meet the students, familiarize different ideologies concepts etc.
- PTA: At greater effort it is taken into heels, as it is a necessary activity, pupils bring their parents to the department to get know of their progress in a semester or whenever there is necessary.
